Earth Day

One of our goals at Home Solutions of Iowa was to get involved and give back to our community. In celebration of Earth Day, we decided to donate rain barrels to someone in need. After researching in our Waukee community, I found two schools that had gardens. After coordinating with both schools, we took the barrels to The Goddard Elementary School where students designed and painted both barrels, one stayed with them and the other was donated to the Walnut Hills Elementary School outdoor learning environment. When we delivered the barrel to Walnut Hills, we had the opportunity to speak with the entire 5th grade class about rainwater conservation and how rain barrels can benefit the environment. Walnut Hills Elementary was so excited that they invited us back for Beautification Day later that month where HSI employees helped students plant lettuce, tomatoes, spinach, carrots, and various peppers in their raised gardens.
